"Well, this is fantastic. It's almost like we're living in Mao's China right now."

Well, Glenn Beck thinks as much. What would compel him to say such thing?  Sit down, this is big.  The President has called for more Americans to volunteer for non-profits.  Upsetting, I know.  I just cannot believe the President would do something so awful. I mean, volunteering? What's next, Obama?  Do you expect us to vote and to care about the future of our country and world?

7 days!

Today was day 7 of my exercise run!  Tonight I walked all three dogs a total of 4 miles at a rate of 17 minutes per mile.  Eventually, my goal is 10 minutes a mile for 3 miles.  But that is some time off in the future.  I can't believe I have a 7 day run going!  Tomorrow, I am going to have to get up early.

This morning/early afternoon in worship, in addition to all of the wonderful testimony given today, I thought for quite some time about the word namaste.  My yoga teacher had explained it as "the divine in me bows to the divine in you."  As I was thinking about it, I decided that it made more sense that I bow to the divine in you and the divine in me.  Then getting ready to write about namaste, I had to look up the spelling (I wasn't even close).  Wikipedia tells me that it means:
  • "I bow to that inherent in you" (That refers to divinity, or "that which is divine".)
  • "I respect divinity within you that is also within me."
  • "The light within me honors the light within you."
I think we could all spend a little more time bowing to the divine that is in each of us. Imagine how our political discourse would change if we all respected and honored our divine creator and that we are each divine creations.  No, I don't mean that we are each gods.  I mean that we are each and every one of us fashioned in the image of the creator.  That is a wondrous thing.   We are each of us uniquely formed.  Imagine the impact on our health care debate.  Imagine a world without an angry, vitriolic Glenn Beck.  Imagine. Okay, end cheese.  Back to the real world. :)

It is late, it is time for me to check in on my little empire in Realm of Empires, my current facebook addiction.  Then I need to head to bed, all this exercising is tiring.  Hopefully, tomorrow I'll have time to tell you about the Potato, Tomato, Spinach Soup I made for potluck after first day meeting.  I have some pictures.  It didn't turn out as planned and required 3, 3!, separate trips to the grocery store.

Glenn Beck is an ass.

Every time I see Glenn Beck or read what he has said or written, I come to the same conclusion, Glenn Beck is a clown and an ass. Today's evidence:

Beck made the statement during a guest appearance today on the "Fox & Friends" morning show. He said Obama has exposed himself as a person with "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."

His remarks came during a discussion of Obama's reaction to the arrest of Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. Gates is black and was arrested for disorderly conduct by a white policeman over a misunderstanding about a break-in at Gates' home.

. . .

Beck's statement was challenged on the air by Fox host Brian Kilmeade, who noted that most of the people who work for the nation's first black president are white.

"I'm not saying he doesn't like white people," Beck said. "He has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist."
Really, Glenn? A deep-seated hatred for white people? Because he said that the police officer arresting a man in his own home for being upset about being accused of breaking and entering his own home? Really, Glenn?

I did like what General Powell had to say on the matter via CNN. Gen. Powell noted that both Gates and the arresting officer could have handled the situation better. I would add that the arresting officer *should* have handled the situation better. I understand why Gates didn't handle it differently. In the article, Powell comments on Palin, Limbaugh, and other political topics. Good article, reminds me of why I like him and wish he would run on the Dem's ticket for national office.
